MAX7219 is an integrated serial input / output common cathode display drive, it connects microprocessor with 8 digit Seven Segment digital LED display, it can also be connected to bar graph display or 64 independent led. It includes an onboard B-type BCD encoder, a multi-channel scan loop, a segment word drive, and a 8*8 static RAM used to store every data. There is only one external register to set the segment current of each LED.
A convenient four wire serial interface can be connected to all universal microprocessors. All data are addressable, thus there is no need to rewrite all display during update. MAX7219 also allows the user to encode each data or not.
The device contains a 150 um a low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control. A scan limit register allows the user to display 1-8 digits. In addition, there is also a inspection mode that can make all LED light up.
It takes only 3 IO interfaces to drive 1 dot matrix! There is no flicker when the dot matrix is displayed! Support cascade!

Connection Description:
1. left side of the module is input interface and right side is output interface.
2. For controlling one module, you only need to connect input interface to CPU
3. For multiple module cascades, please connect the input interface of the first module to CPU and connect its output interface to the input interface of the second module, then connect the output interface of the second module to the input interface of the third module and so on¡­
